about

Philistines is the second album from suburban folk troubadour Cake Mountain.

Philistines LP sees singer/songwriter Cake Mountain (aka Ricky Tanner) blending traditional folk guitar with sombre and sober lyrics about suburban living with contemporary post punk timbres and attitudes.

Philistines is the follow up to the 2010 EP Oddly Comfortable which saw Tanner take a real stripped back approach by using only acoustic instruments whilst recording. The latest fare, however, while centred about the acoustic guitar and natural voice, we find songs often packed with 606 drum machines, Wurlitzer keys and electric guitars. An eclectic mix for suburban folk.

The current Cake Mountain back catalogue (including a live album and demos EP) is available to download for free from cakemountain.bandcamp.com.

I didn't use a bass on this album. I wanted to, but felt it might not need it... also I didn't ave one in my possession when writing/recording.

about

Cake Mountain Reading, UK

Cake Mountain began as principal songwriter Ricky Tanner split from his third band in 2 years. His initial vision was “Arcade Fire on a shoestring”, but the songs became more devolved than that, stripping them to their bones and building them into something new. ... more
